DH 100 homework (9/12/2021)

  1. What was the most popular book in the 1900s-2000s

I am interested in looking at the most popular book in the years of 1900s-2000. When finding evidence, I will find graphs, numerical data showing the most sold books within that 100 year gap and trace it back to which book sold the most/readers most enjoyed. I will also look at historical data by finding old newspaper sources/library sources of them discussing which book is the most popular, and why readers enjoyed the book so much. I would also analyze the book myself and see if people in today’s generation would still enjoy this book or if I would personally enjoy this book and see if it is “the best book”. I will also analyze book forums and ask people on those forums opinions on why this book was the best of its time. I can also use my resources at the CCSU library and ask the librarians why a book like this would be so popular amongst the 1900s-2000, and see if any of them have read it

  1. What was the most popular type of crime in early America

I am interested in looking at the most popular type of crime in early America. When finding evidence, I will look through different graphs, numbers and data looking back in early American history and seeing what type of crime was committed the most. I will also look at historical data of that specific crime, why that crime was committed the most, what was the crime trend rate of that crime, where that crime occurs the most (can also look at numerical data for this) and what were the motives of people committing that crime compared to the motives of people commiting that crime today. I can also ask historical questions to my criminology professors to see if they know anything about this specific topic.

  1. What jobs paid the most in the Roman Empire/Era

I am interested in looking at which jobs paid the most in the Roman Empire. When finding evidence, I will make sure to look at numerical data comparing each job that the Romans did and compare it to the pay they got. I will also use this numerical data to convert their pay to how much we normally get paid today. I will also convert how much money they were making to current US dollars to see how it compares to today’s money. I will make sure to use valid sources when looking up this information (scholarly articles focusing on the history of Rome), and also visit Roman museum websites and see if I can find any information there. I can also call historians who focus on the Roman Empire and see if they can provide me with any good information.
